Ask why a whole country believes in miracles, heaven-sent signs, supernatural powers and religious explanations… Simply because the country is a miracle in itself.
Having survived over 3 decades of civil war, a degrading infrastructure that would be the shame of any other 3rd world country, a non-existent civic spirit that makes people behave like in a jungle…. And you have enough reasons to understand that anything coming from above bringing hope and lighting the path is really needed.
Lebanese people are very pious (!) – whether they handle their religious believes for the love of their own religion or for the hatred of the other one, is beside the point- the most important thing for them is to feel protected and looked after, and mainly hoping for a better tomorrow. A miracle or the thought of one will help them go on in their jungle where over 3 decades of civil war have left scars in their infrastructure but also scars in their hearts.
